Smoke Free Workplace Law

HCPH investigates smoking complaints filed with the Ohio Department of Health.  Smoking is prohibited in public places or places of employment in Ohio. Complaints should be submitted to the Ohio Department of Health which will be passed along to one of our sanitarians to conduct an inspection. Inspections are conducted within 30 days of receiving the complaint.

Guidelines

Ohio voters passed Issue 5 on Nov. 7, 2006, creating Ohio's indoor smoking ban under a new chapter of the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) effective Dec. 7, 2006. This new law requires all public places and all places of employment to prohibit smoking.  These businesses and organizations must also post "No Smoking" signs (as seen to the left) at all entrances.  The enforcement of the indoor smoking ban is a responsibility of the Environmental Health Division.
