Huron County Safe Communities

Huron County Public Health (HCPH) is the administrator of the Huron County Safe Communities Grant. This grant is a federal grant awarded through the Ohio Traffic Safety Office. The grant's mission is to save lives and reduce injuries on Ohio's roads through leadership and partnering efforts. 

 

To achieve this goal HCPH works with law enforcement, schools, government agencies, engineers, service organizations, health and medical fields, businesses, media, county/community leaders, and others interested in improving traffic safety in the county. These partners make up the Huron County Fatal Review Committee and Huron County Safe Communities Coalition, which play an important role in addressing traffic safety issues in Huron County. 

Huron County Fatal Review Committee
Role:
  • Review each fatal and/or serious injury crash that occurs in Huron County each quarter.
  • Look a the elements of each crash and determine if certain trends or patterns can be identified.
  • Report trends or patterns and how these trends will affect future programming.

  • Strive to establish community ownership and support for traffic safety related programs.
  • Organize events to promote Traffic Safety through education, promotion, prevention and enforcement of safe driving practices.
