Nursing/Medical Division - Car Seat Safety

The Huron County General Health District, has 3 certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians. The health department is offering free child restraint safety checks on Tuesday afternoons from 1:30-3:30pm at the HCGHD Norwalk Office located at 180 Milan Avenue in Norwalk. Please call Jenny Ridge at 419-668-1652 ext: 258 or email her at jridge@huroncohealth.com to schedule an appointment to have your child restraint checked to be sure it is properly installed.

During the safety checks, technicians teach parents and caregivers how to properly install their child’s car seat. It is important that parents come to the safety inspection with the vehicle in which the child restraint is usually installed, the child restraint, and the child. Also, bring the owner’s manuals for the child restraint and for the vehicle if you have them.

Kids are only safe in a car when they are in a child restraint that is being used correctly. Make sure your child is safe in his or her car seat:

  • Read your car manual and the manual for the child restraint.
  • Know the weight limit for your child restraint.
  • Send in the warranty card for the child restraint so you are on the list in case of a recall.
  • Check to make sure your child restraint is not on a recall list.
  • Know the background of the child restraint if you are not the original owner.
