Nursing/Medical Division - Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps (BCMH)

BCMH is a financial assistance program funded by a federal, state and county partnership, for children with special health care needs. The Public Health Nurse facilitates the program assisting the family with application; information on BMCH approved providers and a case management for those approved for the program.

BCMH provides services to rule out a handicapping condition, determine a diagnosis, or establish a plan of treatment for a child already diagnosed medical condition. There is no financial eligibility for the diagnostic program. For those diagnosed with an eligible condition, the program offers the potential for a yearlong treatment program.

Public Health Nurses work with families whose children have special health care needs. The PHN can be an important resource for families who may be working with many agencies and providers.

The Huron County General Health District also coordinates two Pediatric BCMH Specialty Clinics, Vision and Hearing. These locally run clinics are available for families who might not otherwise be able to afford to take their child to see a specialist.

Please contact the Health District at 419-668-1652 x 255 to schedule an appointment or to get more information. You may also contact the Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps at 1-800-750-0750.
