Medical Division

Public Health Nursing Services

Nursing Philosophy: Public Health Nursing, at its root, is education, advocation, and promotion of health in, for and with the community. The Nursing Division of the Huron County General Health District seeks to assist the communities and families of Huron County with a non-judgmental and sensitive attitude.

We serve all residents of Huron County, regardless of race, creed, socio-economic or citizenship status.

The Medical Division offers the following services:

Immunizations — travel , childhood, teen and adult vaccines, and drive-through flu shot clinics

Communicable/Reportable Disease Monitoring AND Control —investigation, follow-up and reporting of infectious diseases (e.g. meningitis, measles, MRSA, hepatitis, STDs), and education of patients, contacts and the public

Surviellance of Emerging Diseases and Communicable Disease Outbreaks—monitoring illness activity and patterns in the community (e.g. influenza, chickenpox, etc.)

Tuberculosis Control—TB skin testing, active case monitoring, and financial help for treatment

Health Care Se rvices —primary care clinic for acute and chronic illnesses (for all ages), reproductive health services (for both men and women, including physical exams, education on family planning methods, infertility prevention services, cancer screenings, referrals for mammograms), childrens' specialty clinics (vision, hearing, dental screening, orthopedic, neurology), and financial/medication assistance programs, injections

Blood Lead Testing—testing, surveillance, follow-up and education (including home visits) to reduce childhood lead exposure

Huron County Public Health Nurses...

School Nursing —vision, hearing, scoliosis, dental, head lice , immunization compliance and preschool screenings, and education

Bureau of Children With Medical Handicaps (BCMH) —case management to obtain services for children with special health care needs

Senior Center Health—education and blood pressure screenings in Bellevue, Monroeville, Norwalk, New London and Willard

Public Health Nurses are Registered Nurses (RN) employed by the Health District. They are skilled in working with individuals and are experts on medical assistance in our community to help families.

Huron County's Public Health Nursing Staff include:

Two Masters prepared Registered Nurses, MSN

Three Bachelors prepared Registered Nurses, BSN

Three Associates prepared Registered Nurses, RN

Two Diploma graduated Registered Nurses

Huron County's Support Nursing Staff include:

Two Medical Clerks

One Medical Clerk/Interpreter

One Medical Services Biller

One Medical Director/ APN Collaborator

Infant Death Home Visits —support and information for families who have lost an infant

Home Visits With Huron County Child or Adult Protective Services

Maternity Licensure—visits in conjunction with ODH for the two birthing hospitals

Education — presentations, programs and health fairs for schools, day care providers, community groups, individuals and physicians

Car Seat Safety Checks — free child restraint safety checks by appointment at the HCGHD Norwalk Office
